I have a 13" (I think...or is it 15"? hhhmmm) tv that I use for a monitor for a camera I have for the kennel. I have it on in the mornings so that if I'm doing work on the computer, I can see if a client pulls in.
Around 4:00 I came to the computer to check for a fax I was expecting and as I grabbed ahold of the mouse, I slid the chair in, and the arm bumped the computer desk, which caused the tv to come crashing down.....on my hand! It hurt so bad it literally took my breath away! It swelled right away, but then amazingly the swelling went back down pretty quickly. However, I couldn't move my thumb. The worst of the pain was at the base of the thumb, where it connects to the wrist.
Not wanting to over-react, I decided to wait it out, even though I was in tears and my hand was throbbing. Around 5:00, I decided I had been brave enough and Jay called the urgent care clinic in Ames (which is open until midnite). I went down and they did xrays, but unfortunately since it was in the evening, the xray techs aren't there, so we won't know the results of the xray until tomorrow.
The doctor said that if it's not broke, then I likely damaged ligaments and/or deeply bruised the bone. So, for now he has me in a splint and has given me pain pills (I love him for that LOL). If it's broken I'll have to go down to get it casted. My fingers are crossed that it's NOT broken, that's for sure.
I usually try to find a positive in every situation and for this one it'd have to be that I have learned that I'm better at typing with one hand than I thought I'd be...although it has taken me 20+ minutes to type this.
