I have been down with the flu for the past 2 & 1/2 days and am finally feeling better today, so I headed out to run some much needed errands. This past Thursday night we got over 5" of rain with horrible storms all night long. It was awful! There is a lot of flooding and we have some fields that will probably have to be replanted (or at least parts of them will).
Here's just a few pictures I thought I'd share:
These first 2 pictures are looking southwest & west behind the kennel. There are several large ponds in those 2 fields (both ours). Jay is pretty sure these will definitely need to be replanted. Here it took them so long just to get into the field, and now to have to redo it. Sad.
These two pictures are as I was heading south after turning off our gravel road. As you can see, there is water on both sides of the road. Both ponds are easily 1/2-3/4 of a mile long. I saw this same sight over and over for at least 10 miles or more.
This was as I was entering a nearby town. As you can see, the water is up to the backyard for quite a few people. I had one person from this town who was supposed to board their dog with me this weekend, who had to cancel their plans because they have water in their basement and are trying to save items.
These last two pictures are of a river nearby. The line of trees you see in the first picture is supposed to be along the outer edge lining the river. You can see it has gone way over it's banks. The water you see in the 2nd picture is from the same river and all of that is out of it's banks.
I didn't make it into another nearby town, but from what I hear, the golf course is entirely underwater there. I've also heard 2 of their parks, tennis courts, basketball courts, and 2 baseball diamonds are also under water.
In Ames, where I went today it's not too bad. Water is still out of the river, but you can see where stores had sandbags piled to keep water out. On Friday there were many streets flooded in Ames, and some people couldn't get to work because all the roads leading in were flooded.
What a mess.
