The NE Iowa towns of Parkersburg and New Hartford are mourning tonight. The news report headline says it all:Death Toll From Iowa Tornados Rises To Seven
The town of Parkersburg near Cedar Falls in northeast Iowa has
been heavily damaged by tornado. The Iowa Department of Emergency Management said Sunday evening that seven people had been killed. Five of those deaths were in the town of Parkersburg and two were in New Hartford. The picture to the right shows a home in Parkersburg that is a total loss.
Aplington-Parkersburg High School has been destroyed, with the parking lot being used as a triage center. This picture to the left shows what is left of the school. The NWS says roads are impassible in the town.
I have heard that Dunkerton has also sustained some damage, but it sounds like they missed the worst of the storm.
My heart goes out to all those who lost loved ones and neighbors. My heart also goes out to those who are now left homeless by this storm. May they know they are in the thoughts and prayers of many.

Yes, this was awful. (Dad loves our new living room picture window-he can lay in the recliner and watch the clouds-duh!). We called Rich and Verlaine this morning to see if they had heard anything from Larry & Carol Ricke(think you remember them). They live in Parkersburg. Oh,our hearts go out to these people - this is why we are so demanding and wanting everyone-yes, everyone to want to use their weather radios, as incidential as they may seem. Parents never stop wanting to protect their children (& families).
