Spinach is good....who knew?

Growing up as a kid, I don't recall ever seeing anyone eat spinach raw...well, except Popeye, kinda. He did just squeeze the can till it exploded and then he magically caught it all in his mouth (remember how talented that seemed?). But, canned spinach isn't really raw. It's been cooked first, so that doesn't really count.

I'm talking raw, looks like lettuce leaves, raw. No one ever added spinach leaves to their salad or put it on their sandwich. It was always cooked. Which is why I never ate it. I'm all about texture and that slimy green stuff was not touching my palate. No way, never.

A few years ago I ordered a salad at some restaurant (can't remember where) and it came with these funky green leaves that were not the normal looking lettuce, and I knew it wasn't cabbage. A girlfriend of mine said it was spinach. Instantly I didn't want to eat it. The green slimy image popped into my head. But, not wanting to look like a dork in front of my friend I ate it. hhhmmm..tastes just like the lettuce. Ok, so adding it to my salad is an ok idea.

Time passes and I tried it on my Subway sandwich. Now it's a norm when I eat Subway "a little bit of lettuce and then top it off with spinach". So it appears that I don't dislike all spinach...just cooked spinach.

Now the newest greatest invention in food has come along:

OMG have you tried this stuff? Seriously, it is soooooooo good! It was PMS week recently (sorry men) and I was in a "I have got to eat something salty or I'll scream" kind of mood. I had to get groceries anyhow so while there I grabbed some baked chips and decided to be brave and try this dip. It only has 50 calories per 1/4c serving, which is a good thing since I nearly finished off half the jar in one sitting. LOL Guess cooked spinach isn't totally bad after all.
