We bought a Wii Fit yesterday and all I can say is "thank goodness for curtains!" LOL I have been wanting this for a while now, but the area stores have been out of it, and I was not about to pay $500 or whatever the going price was to buy one online. It really is a great program with different areas you can focus on: Yoga, aerobics, balance & strength training. For me it translates to: Clumsiness, awkwardness, falling over and fits of laughter.
I tried the yoga program. If you look at the picture on the right you will see what is shown on the screen (the tiny picture). You imitate what is shown and you'll get a great workout. That is good in theory, but truth is NOT always the same as the theory. For example.... I put on my yoga pants (ok, they are thin cotton sweats) and a t-shirt. I got out the little board you stand on and took a deep breath. I tried to follow along with Lola (the name I've given the character), but I did not look the same. You gotta understand, even though I took dance lessons for 13 years, that was many many many years ago and something happened during childbirth to drain away any gracefulness and balance I ever had. It's gone. I am about as graceful as a cow walking on a balance beam. No, I don't have a clue how I came up with that analogy. What can I say, I have issues I guess that cause me to have these deep thoughts. Anyhow, I am known for dropping things, spilling things, tripping over things, and quite often I fall up or down the stairs. Just call me "Grace" for short. I am taking a break from working with my trainer at the moment (just not enough hours in the day right now), but when I was working with her, quite a bit of time was spent working on my balance...or lack of. I am very good at being able to laugh at myself, which my trainer said she loves, because she will get people who get so mad at themselves when something doesn't go right. The bad part is that there are times I would do something so ungraceful that I would crack up, which would get her to laughing as well. Not a good combo. LOL Have you ever used a Bosu Trainer? It's that half-ball thingy pictured here on the right. I have made peace with it, but in the beginning I hated that thing. Almost everything I do with the trainer involves me standing on it. She says it helps to work my core as well as my balance, but I think it's because she secretly is videotaping me and then has her girlfriends over to watch my video. The first time or two I stepped on it, I could barely stand. As a matter of fact, my trainer had to hold my hands to help me get my balance standing on it. Now I can do squats and even small bounces on it. As that one commercial used to say: "We've come a long way baby."
Back to the Wii Fit. I've watched my kids do hula-hoop exercises on it, which I am positive will have me a size 5 in no time (I know...keep dreaming). I've watched them do balance games that I know will cause me great injury if I'm not careful and I've watched them do different strength training games. I think my best bet is for me to do two very important things: #1 - get up at 5am when no one else is around and #2 - make sure the curtains are closed.
This could get ugly.
