Well, our plans changed quite a bit yesterday due to the weather. It rained off and on most of the day, so Ashley called us and said they wouldn't be doing a half-time routine and probably wouldn't dance along the sidelines either, so we didn't go to her game, which meant we got the joy and priviledge of staying home and watching the ISU vs IA game...and that's all I'm going to say about that.
We made plans with Ashley to pick her up at her dorm and take her out for supper. We went to a BBQ place that is complete with wet wipes on the plate next to your food (if it's that messy, it has to be good!). Her roommate J, and J's boyfriend also joined and we really enjoyed them. Plus, J is still giggly like Ashley is. The two of them were sitting beside each other in the backseat when J called Ashley. Ashley answered and these two silly college girls proceeded to carry on a phone conversation with each other, sitting right there next to each other. We were all cracking up at them. I am so happy for Ashley that she was blessed with a fun-loving, nice roommate.
After supper we went back to the dorm to drop J and her boyfriend off and then we headed to Target because Ashley had some shopping to do. Plus, she had talked to us about how everybody had a futon in their room, so everybody had a place for people to sit when they stop by and because they are one of the fortunate ones with an air conditioner everybody does stop by and everybody has to sit on the floor, and it sure would be nice if at least some of the everbodys had a place to sit. Yea, she's about a subtle as a brick. We ended up finding a really nice futon/sofa bed at Target and it really will work nice for when someone stays over. Ashley has already talked to Chelsea about coming and staying some night, so at least she won't have to sleep on the floor. We loaded the big box into the back of the Vue. It fit - barely. The problem was that now Ashley had no place to sit for the 8 mile drive back to her dorm. The picture you see of her is fuzzy and dark because I took it with my cell phone and as she jumped into the back of the Vue and said "I'll just lay here for the ride". Since that beat Jay's suggestion of tying her to the luggage rack, we went with it. As we got to the parkling lot of her dorm, Jay decided to have some fun with her and he turned corners fairly quickly. Ashley slid back and forth across the box and was screaming "Grown-up kid abuse! Grown-up kid abuse". When asked why she called it that, she replied with "Well, I'm a grown up now, and I'm your kid." Jay said she would just call it abuse or assault. She said "Really? Cool. I always wondered who those words were for." See why I miss her??? LOL
At the dorm Jay and Ashley got busy putting the futon together (well, actually Jay worked, Ashley watched), and thankfully it was
pretty easy to do. We got it all set up for her and she kept looking at the clock in her room. I asked if we were keeping her from something, and she said "Well, kinda. They have Karaoke at Buds on Saturday nights and it is soooo funny to watch the really bad singers, and some are really bad. Even worse than you mom." Once I got past the concern of what "Buds" was (turns out its the college hangout with pool tables, arcade games and they serve munchies and sodas), I address the issue of my singing. She said "Mom, you gotta admit. The noise you make might be loud, but it is not what I'd call joyful." Ok why was it that I said I missed her???
We gave her hugs and as we left the dorm 4 guys hollared for her and asked if she was heading to Buds. Ashley gave us another quick hug and then she was gone. Off to look for other bad singers like her mom. I really am glad she is adapting so well. We talked on the way home how horrible it would be if she was calling us crying and begging to come home. As long as we can call or text so I can get my "Ashley fix", it's all good.
