Twas The Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas
And all through the farm
Not a creature was stirring
All the animals were warm.

The dog sweaters were hung
Right there by the door.
They keep the dogs warm
Wish they’d keep snow off the floor.

My daughters were sleeping
And so was my son.
By the time I finished wrapping
It was a quarter to one.

I looked all around
at the Christmas delight
And thought how it differed
From that first Christmas night.

I stood at my window
And our barn I did see.
How would I have felt
Being in there - if it were me?

Would I have been excited?
Would I have shook with fear?
How odd it'd be to give birth
With a cow and pig standing near.

What did Mary think
On that cold winters night?
I can’t imagine giving birth
without a doctor in sight.

Did she wonder about the future?
Did she realize what she had done?
Did she understand that her baby
Was Gods own precious son?

How did she feel
With strangers stopping by?
Not knowing the Shepherds
who came to say Hi.

I’m sure she was tired
And wanted to sleep.
Probably hard to catch zzz’s
Next to horses and sheep.

I know I’m so happy
That Mary had her baby boy.
He fills my heart with gladness
And gives me great joy.

But I have to be honest
I’m glad it was her long ago.
If I was told to give birth in a barn
I would have said "Uh, I don’t think so!"

I turned away from the window
I looked again at the tree.
Before I slipped into bed,
I got down on bended knee.

The morning would come quickly.
The day would be filled with great fun.
Celebrating Christmas...
The birth of the Son.

We’ll sing Christmas Carols
And do it up right.
For now I wish you all Merry Christmas
And to all a good night.

I pray you and your family
have a very Merry Christmas!
I'll see you again in a couple of days!

I just came from Diane's place, where you should know I wrote, "I had no idea that Dena was a polygamist. You think you know someone."
