DON'T CALL 911!!!

Look at what can happen to you if you do:

Ok, no if it were really an emergency, they wouldn't turn you upside down. LOL Our 4-H club was to give a brief presentation on first aid and what to do if something happened during a club meeting. Gina, the other leader and I decided to have a couple of our volunteer ambulance crew members come instead because we figured it would be much more informative, but we had no idea how entertaining it would be also.

As you can see, Chelsea volunteered to be the victim...err....patient. The gentleman in the first picture with her is Duane. He is our fire chief, and head of the ambulance crew, and also Gina's husband. Their son is a senior 4-Her like our girls. The other gentleman is John and he has 2 sons in our 4-H club.

They started by talking about bumps to the head, cuts and bruises. Then Duane said "So, let's say Chelsea breaks her arm, can you guess what should you do? Well, if you call 911, we'd put a splint on it (they put a splint on her right arm)." "Let's say she has a bone poking through her arm, what should you do? Well, if you call 911, we'd probably put an air cast on it (they put the air cast on her left arm and inflated it)."

Then Duane said "Let's say Chelsea falls and bumps her head. If that happened and you called 911, we'd put a neck brace on her (the 1st picture shows Duane demonstrating how to hold the head still until help arrives). Now, let's say it was worse than that and she fell down the stairs and hurt her back and neck. (2nd picture shows them strapping her to the backboard....notice they haven't taken off the arm splints yet. LOL)

John then said that if 911 was called and she needed to go to the hospital, they'd strap her to a gurney to transport her (3rd picture). One boy said "Have you ever had anyone fall off of that?" John said "No we haven't. Duane, let's show them why." They undid a few straps and lifted the back board off the gurney. Duane said "If we've done our job right, we should be able to do this." (4th picture shows them tipping her upside down)

Of course poor Chelsea is strapped down and totally helpless. She let out a scream when they flipped her, which sent all the kids into a fit of laughter. LOL Duane also said they like to check for a pulse and can do that here on the feet...which was a good excuse for him to tickle her feet since she couldn't kick him. LOL

It was a great presentation and the kids loved it. It was definitely more memorable for the kids than if Gina and I had just talked to them.

Almost as memorable as this:

That is Gina and I at the meeting last night. It was our halloween party, so of course we leaders take that very seriously. The kids in the club kept looking at us as if to say "We have the wierdest club leaders ever." LOL Gina is wearing a giant letter "B" and it has blood stains all over it. She is a "Killer Bee" LOL! I am an evil queen. Of course, my 3 children thought their mom had totally lost her mind, but I felt quite lovely...especially with my black lipstick. Evil queens are supposed to be frowning or making an evil face and I am really trying hard to do that in this picture, but if you knew Gina and what a nut she is, you would know why it was all I could do to keep from busting out laughing!
