Mary Did You Know?

On this the eve of our Lords birth, I wanted to share one of my favorite Christmas songs...Mary Did You Know? Being a mother myself, it makes it easy for me to look at things from her point of view. She was an amazing woman, and she did something I don't honestly don't know if I'd have the courage to do. Young, alone, and being told she was going to have a baby, who will be the Son of God. Did she know right away who her baby would really be? Was she scared? Was she excited? How long until she started to think about the "what ifs?" If you've seen the movie Passion by Mel Gibson, you'll understand what I mean by those "what ifs". I cried so hard during that movie that I was exhausted by the time it was over. I kept seeing things through the entire movie from Marys point of view...a mothers point of view. Did she know deep down in her soul that her son, her baby boy, was going to be put to death? Did she know he was going to be tortured and beaten? I can't imagine the heartbreak & agony she had to feel knowing this was taking place. Did she know, really know, right from the beginning that he would only be here (on earth) a short while and then he'd leave to join his Father in heaven? Did she ever feel angry about that and beg for more time? Did she know the full impact he would have on people for generations to come? So many many questions... Mary, did you know?

Mary, did you know, that your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Did you know, that your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know, that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you've delivered, will soon deliver you.
Mary, did you know, that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Did you know, that your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know, that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little boy, you've kissed the face of God.
Mary, did you know?
The blind will see. The deaf will hear. And the dead will live again.
The lame will leap. The dumb will speak. The praises of the lamb.
Mary, did you know, that your baby boy is lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know, that your baby boy will one day rules the nations?
Did you know, that your baby boy is Heaven's perfect lamb?
This sleeping child youre holding, Is the great I am.
