Ok, let's see a show of hands...who out there is sick of the snow, ice, wind, cold and just plain yucky weather and ready for Spring? Yep, just what I thought...pretty much everyone. And I am included in that!
I remember when we first moved back from Iowa. Until that point we had lived in California (with the exception of when I was a baby) and rarely ever saw snow. If it did snow, it was tiny little flakes that either melted as they came down, or melted as soon as they got to the ground.
Anyhow, we moved to Iowa on April 1st. A fairly nice day, but I do remember it was chilly. We spent the night at my grandparents house and slept upstairs. I remember as I was coming down the stairs the next morning, my grandmother was on the phone and I heard her say "we're just sitting here watching the snow." SNOW? I was really excited and after getting dressed and grabbing my jacket, I ran out into the snow. I don't remember how much there was, but I do remember the ground was totally white. I thought it was beautiful! I played in the snow for a little bit until a really strange sensation came over me. I think some call it FROSTBITE! Ok, so not quite frostbite, but holy cow I was sooooooo cold. I started shivering and my fingers were bright red and they hurt, so did my feet.

I went back inside and warmed up and that's when it hit me. We weren't just visiting. We lived here in this frozen tundra now. "What if it snows year round?" "What if it snows so much our house is covered and we're buried alive?" "What if I get so cold my fingers and toes fall off?" That's when I decided that I didn't like winter, and never would.
Sometimes as you grow older, your likes and dislikes change. For example, I used to like ice cream. Not so much anymore. I used to dislike broccoli & cauliflower and now when steamed together they are my favorite vegetables. I used to like short skirts, now I don't wear skirts. I used to like AC/DC, KISS and other rock bands, now I prefer country music. However, there are some things that never change. My dislike of winter is one of them.
I don't get SAD (seasonal affect disorder) or suffer depression during winter. I get downright cranky about the weather. Not cranky like I chew people out or anything like that. More like "ok, so if there really IS global warming out there, how come it hasn't come to Iowa yet?"
I don't like any winter activities. I'm afraid of heights so sledding or skiing down hills is out. I have weak ankles, so ice skating is out. And making snowmen takes a lot more work than Icare to put in to it, since I have to do it outside...where it's cold. About the only fun thing to do outside is to stand by and watch some goofball touch their tongue to a metal pole. Now that's fun! LOL

Ok, off to make more hot chocolate and warm my tushie in front of the fire.
Hurry up Spring!!
