Craziness!

This morning I took Austin in to school and he let out a "oh my gosh...LOOK!" There was our van temperature display showing the outside temp. Austin grabbed my phone and took a picture of it. -20F Could that be right? Is that possible? Can't be! This was at 8:15am...not 3am. This was in Iowa...not the north pole!

It is INHUMANE that anyone should have to go outside on a day like today. I let our van run for 20 minutes before we took off and it was still cold enough inside there to see your breath. As we got to the school I was shocked and outraged at the number of children I saw walking to school. And how many of them had no hats or gloves. Some were high school aged kids who know better, but several were young kids...some looked to be Kindergarten age at the most. One little boy had a buzz cut, no hat and no gloves. His hands were inside his coat sleeves and he had them up covering his ears. Who are these parents? Where are these parents? Are they home sitting sipping their coffee? Are they still in their nice warm robe and slippers? Are they still in bed? Don't give me the argument that many parents have to go off to work early, so the kids have to walk to school. IF that really was the case and I had to go to work early, I would either find somewhere I could take them so someone could give them a ride, or I'd call my boss and let him/her know I'd be late coming in. There is no excuse for those poor kids to be walking to school in these dangerously cold temperatures. I'd have willingly gone over and asked any and all of them if they'd like a ride the rest of the way, but in todays times, they of course would have said no and I can't blame them for that.

I can however blame the parents, and in my opinion, this borders on abuse.

Then as I drive through town I see all the poor dogs outside. In a yard or on a chain, huddled in a corner trying to keep warm. I guess if people don't care about keeping kids safe and warm, why should I even think some people would give a darn about their poor animals.

In a perfect world, we be able to take all parents and pet owners who are this irresponsible and stand them outside all day. No hats, no gloves, and no shelter. Let's see how they like it.

Ok...I'm done. Can you tell I'm in a "don't mess with me mood" today? LOL
