Love is in the air

Valentines day....aawww the sweet day of love.

Valentines day has never been a huge deal in our house. Jay is a romantic guy, but just not in that way. I have learned his ways over the years though. To him, he shows his love for me by changing the oil in my car, or checking the brake fluid, or power washing the kennel for me, things like that. To him, that's romantic because it shows he loves me and wants me to be safe when driving my car or that he's taking part of the work burden off me. To me, it's like "so you changed the oil...whoopdy-doo." LOL I have learned how important that is to him though and how things like that really are great love gestures, and I try hard to really show my gratitude in a grand way when he does things like that.

I on the other hand like visual things. I'm not talking expensive or extravagent. For example, the whole first year we were married, there was a small pocket notebook laying on top of our tv in the living room. I left for work before Jay was even up, and before he left each morning, he'd write me a little note in that notebook. Somedays it was as simple as "Late for class, love you." Other days, more elaborate. I would look forward to reading those notes every day when I got home from work. Another example: When we were dating, he gave me a toy from inside a Cap'n Crunch box. It was a glow in the dark "Sog Monster" and if you remember, the Cap'n was always fighting off the Sog Monsters who tried to make the cereal soggy. When he gave that to me, I was like "what in the heck is this?" He said "Well, last night I tossed it up on my dresser and when I woke up in the middle of the night it was still glowing. It happened to be putting a glow right on the picture I have of you on my dresser and it made me think of you. So I decided to give it to you, and if you wake up in the middle of the night and see it glowing, I want you to know that I'm thinking and dreaming of you." Aaaawwwww. I thought that was so sweet and to this day, I still have that Sog Monster sitting in our bedroom and it still glows every single night. It's one of my most prized possessions believe it or not.

With little surprises and things like that being my idea of romance, my dear sweet husband scored big with me this Valentines Day! Every day for the past week, he has placed a single rose in the house for me to unexpectedly find. One day I found one in the shower as I got in, one morning on the desk in the kennel office, one morning taped to the bathroom mirror, one day in my car. There is always a little post-it note attached that says "I love you". So sweet to show he took time out of his busy day to do something like that for me. To me...that is romance! Then this morning he finished if off by giving me the rest of the flowers to equal out a dozen roses. Had he just given me all the roses today, I'd still loved getting them. But by surprising me every day, that made it much more special for me.

Yep, I think I'll keep him. :)
