She's a safe cracker!

I take a LOT of digital photos. I love taking pictures and always have. Everything from pictures of the kids and other family members, to our pets, landscapes and sunsets. When I download pictures on to the computer, I burn a cd immediately. Those become my "negatives" and they go right into a fire safe box in my office. I had one small box, but it was full, so I bought another one that was larger. That darn thing never did work right, right from the start. The button you push in to open it, never wanted to move. It has been one of those things on the "Honey Do" list for a very long time.

We are going through old pictures to find one that the girls want to use for their graduation party poster board displays, so we decided to look back through the negatives cds to see what we'd find. But, no matter how hard we tried, we couldn't get that darn box open. Jay wasn't home and I pushed and pounded and tried the keys every which direction, but nothing would open it.
So, out of desperation, I set forth a challenge with a reward. I would give $5.00 to whoever was able to open that safe! Austin tried for a few minutes, but he gave up. Chelsea said "I have a dad and a boyfriend...what do I need to earn any money for." Tongue Out Ashley said "I can do it!"
She went in to my office closet where the box is located. It's in there with all of the graduation items we are gathering over time and Ashley went to work on trying to open the safe. She tried the keys like I did....and even managed to bend & twist one and break the other one. Open Mouth She said "Mom, can I do whatever I have to, to get this safe open?" I said "well, at this point, as long as it doesn't involve fire, explosives, or anything illegal...go for it."

She put the key in the box (as you can see in the picture above) and while putting it in different positions she used a hammer to try to force the button up. Didn't work. She was in a really silly mood, so each time she'd try something that didn't work, she'd tap her head and say "think, think, think". LOL

After breaking the one key and horribly twisting the other one, she tossed them aside and headed to Jays office for the other tools. (I have to admit I was a little nervous by that). She managed to push a screwdriver into the box where it "should" open and then she pounded hard on the box, breaking the little button we were trying to open....

Here's a close-up showing how she then broke the whole mechanism off. I think it was an accident, because when it broke she said "oops" and went into a fit of giggles. She said "Ok safe, now you die!" and she started pounding for all she was worth and pretty soon she let out a cheer! "Wooohoooo! I got it!!!"

I came into my office to see her sitting there looking through the treasure of cds inside. She said "Hey mom....banks keep a lot of money in their safes right? Maybe I don't kneed to go to college after all. I'll just break into banks safes." Lol

I gave her the $5.00 and she said "Thank you. It's been a pleasure doing business with you. If you need anything else broken into, just call me." What a goofball!
