THE GOOD
Austin had his first track meet yesterday. This was actually supposed to be his 3rd meet, but the first 2 were canceled due to bad weather. Austin is NOT a fan of track and doesn't enjoy it, but since there is no junior high golf team, and he says he wants to have something to do, he participates in track. He ran in 3 relay events at the meet, and was the 3rd leg in each relay.

Here's my "my hands are always in my pockets cuz Im a farm boy"
son waiting for his first race. LOL
He ran in the 4x400:
He ran in the 4x100
And he ran in the 4x800. If you notice he's all alone in this picture,
that's because their team was that far ahead. They ended up winning their race. They were so excited!
There were times that a gust would come along and it'd about knock you right off your feet! I felt bad for these poor kids having to run in that. And of course, as luck would have it, the wind was from the south, and the kids had to run south to get to the finish line. What a fun way to finish up a race. Not!
THE BAD
Austin got his school permit allowing him to drive to school last January. However, we told him he was not allowed to drive until Spring when we knew the roads would be good. He is very cautious and nervous when it comes to driving, but does a great job. This morning for the very first time, my baby drove to school all by himself. Here he is leaving the drive:
Is that bad? No, that's not the bad part. The bad part is that he had the same rule that his sisters had on the first day they drove to school alone: Call your mom as soon as you get to school, so she knows you arrived safely. That's not too much to ask for is it? Well apparently so because my son did not call me! I called him and left him a message on his phone (while talking in a redneck voice) that said "Hi Austin this is your 'I'm so worried I can't think straight' mama calling you. Since you never called, I can only imagine you drove off a ravine or cliff somewhere. I realize we don't have ravines or cliffs around here, but there can be no other explanation why you'd do your mama like this. I guess I'll have to have Officer Butler (our town cop) stop at the school and escort you to the school phone to call me. Ok, I won't really do that, but listen here mister, you might want to consider moving to Canada because you is in major trouble for not calling me! Do you hear me? I'm talking big trouble and I know you're scared now!" LOL
Chelsea being the sweet daughter she is sent me a text when she got to school that said "Mom, just so you don't have to worry, I wanted to let you know that he did make it to school safely because I see his car parked here." LOL That cracked me up, because to be honest, I'm wasn't worried. I was going on and on after he left like I was so worried and making outrageous statements because that's the weird kind of mom I am. LOL Statements like "Oh sure, now the stress is gonna be so bad I'll probably need a pacemaker!" or "Look...another gray hair! See what you all are doing to me!" or "Great. Just great. Now I'm gonna have to call all the area hospitals to be sure he wasn't taken to any of them, and I already have enough to do today thank you very much." Guess Chelsea thought her poor mama had gone and lost it for sure. LOL
