My Current Rant

I rarely ever watch Oprah...it's not that I personally have anything against her, but she's on at 4:00pm here, and we are usually either at one of the kids' activities at that time, or on the road to an activity. So, I didn't see one particular episode that was on recently, but a good friend of mine tivoed it and was talking to me about it and it made me fuming!

It was the episode with the first pregenant "male". I put the words in quotations because "he" isn't male. "He" still has female parts. Giving me testosterone pills and changing my name to Dean doesn't mean I'm now a man, just means I'm a girl with issues...a whole lotta issues.

Thomas On Oprah

"Thomas" used to be Tracy, but for whatever reason didn't enjoy life as Tracy. She started to take testosterone, changed her hair, clothing, and her name. Time went by and she even got married, although I'd like to know what state this took place in, because there aren't too many locations that recognize lesbian marriages as legal...and that's what this is: a lesbian couple. I don't care if she wants to go by Thomas or any other typical male name. The fact is, she has female plumbing, so that makes her female....a rose by any other name, is still a rose.

If "Thomas" really wanted to live life as a male, then why didn't she go all the way? Why in the world would ANYONE want to deal with monthly cramps, bloating & periods if they didn't have to. I for one know that I'd love to get rid of them, as I'm sure most women would. So if you wanted to be a man, I'd think that'd be top on the priority list. So why keep it? Fame, opportunity, money. That has to be it.

Think about it...If he really did it to just be able to have a child with his wife, then he would have let HER carry the baby. But that wouldn't have generated the publicity, the fame, or the money "his" carrying the baby will. He's been on numerous talk shows already and we're supposed to think he's not in this for the money? I wonder how long it'll take for the book and/or movie deals to come to the table? And how many specials will be on tv once the baby is born?

Ok, so now I'm sure I'll get flamed by some who read this, and you know what...so be it. Some of us tried desperately to have children, but we didn't do it to make a spectacle out of it, and it makes me so mad to see innocent children used as a pawn in someone elses plan.
