Sleepover

Yesterday Ashley & a friend of hers had plans to go shopping. They took Anna along and then later commented that Anna didn't hardly talk at all. Ashley talks fast - very, very fast. However, this friend of hers may actually be able to talk even faster ~ I know, shocking, right? The friend "K" said "Anna said she couldn't understand me and I just don't get that". LOL While they were gone, Ashley called me and asked if K and a couple of other kids could come over to the house. What I didn't realize was how many kids we were talking about. Besides K, there 6 others that were invited. Don't get me wrong, I like having all the kids come over, but had I been given a little notice of how many were coming I could have been more prepared. I could have had snacks ready, instead of just some leftover pizza in the fridge. I could have had sodas, lemonade or something else to drink besides just water. Yea, yea, yea, I know water's good for them, but come on, think back to when you were a kid. How much water did you drink at a party? They pulled out the Wii and played tennis, boxing and a bunch of other games, while the noise level increased by the minute.

All was going well until I heard one boy shout "Ok, I'll be right back, I gotta get my clothes off." Ummmm....what? Then a girl says "I get to strip down once he's done". And another says "Ashley, can I get undressed in your room?" I think I may have actually blacked out for a moment - I know I saw stars. I had visions of some kind of wild teen orgy going on in my sun room. A bunch of crazy kids running around naked playing Wii, which gives a whole new visual to the Wii Fit hoola hoop game.

Imagine my great relief when the first boy came out of the bathroom wearing his swim trunks. OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH! They're going in the hot tub! Ok. I can breathe again. Sure enough, one by one they all got undressed and into their suits. The only 2 that didn't join in were the two exchange students. Anna & Diego. So of course, worrier mom that I am, I was hoping this wasn't a horrible thing they were witnessing. Do males and females not share a hot tub in Spain? None of the suits were innapropriate, but were they considered too revealing? Wait. Hold the phone. Don't they have nude beaches over there? Or at least topless ones?

Later in the evening Ashley asked if they could all just stay overnight. Now I realize, there was mixed company out there, but, these are good kids. I knew it wasn't like anything was going to go on and I didn't have to worry at all that someone had smuggled in some alcohol or anything else (one thing I have always been very grateful for), so yea, I was ok with it. But...I had to consider the feelings of Anna & Diego. They live in a very different culture, and are of different religions. Would this make them uncomfortable? When they went back home and told their parents would they think we are horrible Americans with no morals? I mean, they don't know us or what we are like. So, I told Ashley that the only way it would be allowed is if she talks to both of them and asks if they are ok with it. If either one says no, that's totally fine and no one will stay.

Since I get up at 5:30 every morning, I was in bed by 11:00 last night and at that point the hot tubbing was still going strong, as was a Wii golf game being played by Austin and a guy named "M". Since M is older than he is, Austin thought it was pretty cool to hang out with him. M is also a golfer for real, and he told Austin they needed to go out a play together this summer. The smile on Austin's face was priceless!

So that was our night. No wild naked hot tubbing. No wild orgys. No wild Wii tournaments. It all must have been ok for Anna & Diego, because they were crashed in sleeping bags along with the other kids this morning. The whole night was just a group of kids hanging out together having a lot of laughs. I even saw Anna & Diego laughing quite a bit so I'm hoping that means they had a good time too, or that they at least tell their parents they did.
