To give you a little deeper insite into our two girls, I only need to point out 1 example for each of them and you will see that despite the fact they are identical twins, they are as different as night and day. While both are caring, compassionate, funny and yes, I must admit....messy, their lives currenty have different priorities that show how their similarities basically end there.
Chelsea
She is and always has been our rescuer of animals in need. She reminds me a lot of myself at her age. I would have loved to rescue every animal in the world as well. The difference is, she does it, without letting us know she has done it, and then she appeals to our Christian ideals by saying "Mom, they are Gods creatures. He created them with a purpose, and I can't just let them starve." My thoughts are "But my daughter, I'm sure the purpose wasn't just to fill up our barn, oh and who's paying to feed them and medically care for them? Uh yea, us, so remember that when you want that $80 pair of jeans."

She currently has a job at a vet clinic. Recently a lady came in with litters of kittens. She refuses to have her cats spayed, so oops! they ended up pregnant again and she doesn't want all these kittens. She said to Euthanize them. Of course the vet doesn't want to do that if she doesn't have to, so each staff member agrees to take one or 2 kittens home and to work on finding homes for them. That leaves 13 kittens that the vet will probably need to put down. Enter Chelsea to their rescue. "No. I'll take them. I'll find homes for them." Chelsea calls me and says "Mom, now don't freak out" (has a parent heard scarier words to start a conversation with?). She explained the situation, but conveniently left out the fact that there were so many kittens, so I agreed to let her bring them home to find homes for them. She did find homes for 3. That's it. 3! I'm not Catholic, but even I know that St. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals, and even he was saying "Whoa girl, that leaves a bucket load of animals at your house!" Thankfully, due to the kennel, I have kitty condos that they are currently in, but still...they gotta go! When I try to reason with her, she says "But mom, they are so helpless. They didn't ask to be born or dumped. All they want is love, which I want to give them. Why is that so wrong?" Yea, ok, hard to reason with that. So, if you have room in your heart, (and garage or barn) for a bucket load of kittens, call me!
Ashley
Yesterday Ashley & I went shopping. She is my "girly girl" and my shopping buddy, which for a while I never thought I'd have. About 2 years ago the ponytails, tshirts and sweats went out the window and in entered a fashion diva who loves getting her hair layered, getting her nails done, and clothes that are 'to die for'. As we were driving home we were talking about her impending move to college and I asked if she was scared or nervous at all, and she said "Not really. I already know my roommate and we get along great, and have my first day of class outfit already picked out and I know how I'll wear my hair. There's only one thing left that I really need to be totally ready." My mind went from things like her bible (which I found out later is already on her list of things to take), updating her ipod, new jewelry, and maybe a new address book. "What is it your needing?" I asked, figuring we had time to stop for one more purchase if necessary. "I need a gay friend. A really gay one." Ever have those moments when your heart skips a beat and you nearly drive off the road? Yea, that was me right then. Even though I didn't really want to, I knew it was time to further this discussion...
"Mom, think about it...it'd be great. Ok, I'm not saying I agree with their lifestyle choice, but when you see some of them on tv, wow they are awesome to have as a bff (best friend forever). Look at Jack and Will from Will and Grace. They helped Grace so much. Think about it, he could do my hair for me and help me pick out cute clothes, we could watch chick flicks together, and we could talk about everything." She went on to say that yes, she could do those things with a girl, but according to her "gay guys are just better at it".
So there you have it...one is deeply involved in caring for sick and homeless animals, and the other is deeply involved hoping she finds a very gay friend. Yep, night and day.
