I grew up hearing we should always have a goal in mind. If you don't have a goal, how will you know when you've reached it? Kind of like if you don't have a final destination in mind, how will you know when you've arrived? (good ones Dad!)
I have come to know that I am a visual person. I like visual reminders of things. Just ask my kids...I am the "post-it note queen". It also helps me to stay focused when I have a visual reminder of what I am to be focusing on, or working towards. For example, I bought a cute Iowa State bracelet not too long ago, but I had to lose X number of pounds before I was allowed to wear it. I had that bracelet hanging up right next to my computer, so every time I was checking emails or doing bookwork, the bracelet was right there reminding me to be good. Recently I finally got to wear my bracelet and I was so proud. Then I slipped and had to put the bracelet away again until I got back to where I was to be.
Recently I read about people making a "Vision Board" that had pictures and/or sayings on it that were geared towards a certain goal they had. The samples I saw had to do with a company offering a prize of a trip to it's top salesman, so they had pictures of cruise ships, beaches, tropical drinks and motivation sayings. So I got to thinking about how good that would be for me, being the visual person I am.
I bought a firm poster board at Wally world a few weeks ago, and as time has allowed I have looked up words and pictures on the internet. I saved them, cropped them, edited them, whatever I felt I needed to do to have them relate to my ultimate goal....a healthy life as a slim person. I printed the different pictures and sayings and cut them apart. Slowly, I started to arrange them on the poster board and just last night I finally, FINALLY finished my Vision Board. It now proudly POPs out at me anytime I walk into my office to remind me what all my hard work is for. Here's a picture of my board:
