Remember youth? Remember your first love? Remember how you thought the earth would come to a screeching halt and you would just "die" if you couldn't spend every single waking moment with that person?
Well, that is the point Chelsea is at in her life. She has been friends with her boyfriend since she was a freshman in high school, and they have always had that little spark that let us mothers know that there was interest and chemistry there, but they weren't ready to admit it. Chelsea was not allowed to date until she was 16 and at that point in time, he had a girlfriend. He had 2 girlfriends before he started dating Chelsea, but neither lasted very long because Clint is a farmer and you either have to have grown up with a farming family or be very tolerant (which is what I was LOL). The 2 other girls he dated were neither. They didn't like it when he had to be in the field on a Friday night instead of going to a movie or something.
Chelsea has always enjoyed farm life. She loves all the animals and has always declared that she wants to live on a farm forever. Last Fall she came to me and said "Mom, Clint and I talked and we think we'd like to try going out, what do you think?" I said "As long as he's good to you, great. And...I'm glad to see you two finally admitted you like each other." hehehe
The majority of their dates have been out riding in a tractor or combine in the field. Chelsea learned how to drive the different equipment and has helped her dad in the field and now loves to go over and help Clint (she's usually much more eager to help him than her dad LOL). Clint has told Jay that he never thought he'd meet a girl who loves farm life as much as he does.
Is Clint perfect? No. No one is. There has been a couple of times when we have raised an eyebrow or two. He is in his first year of college and so he is still young and has some growing up and maturing to do. However, he has always been very respectful of us and calls Jay for farming advice more than he talks to his own dad (because his dad is a jerk a lot of times). He has a good work ethic and is not a drinker or smoker.
Chelsea has so much going on right now with this being her Senior year and the school musical just ending, and she has state drill team competition coming up, and other "stuff", plus homewore, so we have set the rule that for now she is not allowed to go out on a school night. She talked to me last night and asked if we could make an exception to the rule just this once, beause she really wanted to go ride with Clint on Monday night. I said "no, a rule is a rule and you don't have to like it or agree with it, but you do have to respect it." She looked really sad and when I asked why it was such a big deal that she goes out to ride in the field with him on that night. She said "because it's our 1 yr anniversary."
She's out riding in the field with Clint tonight. I can't be THAT mean.
