According to the National Weather Service, we're in for a bumpy ride tonight. This the radar shown at 3:30pm CDT. Not much going on around here at the moment. We have cloudy skies, and it's so humid you could cut the air with a knife, but overall not too bad out there.
The boxes you see outlined are for watches and warnings going on in surrounding states. The tornado watch currently in effect only pertains to western Iowa. But, according to the NWS, the worst is yet to come. I'm hoping they are wrong. I'm hoping they are so wrong, we can make all kinds of jokes around the water cooler tomorrow. Ok, I don't go to a job with a water cooler, but you know what I mean.
I am a major bad weather geek. I would LOVE to ride a long with storm chasers. I actually found a place online where you pay something like $2500.00 and you can ride with professional storm chasers for one full week. I showed it to Jay and told him that would be so cool. He gave me "omg my wife has lost her mind" look - one that I get quite often actually - so I knew that meant it was never going to happen.
So I live out my fantasy as a storm chaser by being glued to the radars (I have 6 saved in my favorites) and I have 2 sites that update watches and warnings regularly. I really want a scanner so I can listen to the police talk about any action (aka: tornadoes) they spot, but Jay says I'd get more weird during storms than I already am. I always make sure my digital camera battery is fully charged and ready to go. I LOVE having our sliding doors facing to the west and I won't allow any trees to be put up along that side or they'll block the view of any storms that might be coming.
The only bad part is that we have stupid (yes I said STUPID) satellite internet access. Seriously, if we could get something different where we lived, I'd have it in a heartbeat. Satellite internet translates to: You won't have online access if it's raining, storming, snowing, or even just windy. So I know that means I won't be able to be online tonight. If I was, I would keep you all updated with new radar pictures, since I'm sure you're as excited about this as I am. LOL
Ok, get your storm gear and storm room ready. Make sure you have fresh batteries in your flashlight. Have your phones charged up and your pet taxis on standby (sometimes Fido just doesn't want to go to the basement, so you need to have some help).
Hang on Toto...it could be a bumpy ride!!
