CMA Awards

I am a big fan of country music. I like that there are several songs that praise God in them, and I like how they tell a story, teach a lesson, or send a message. And then there are some that are just plain fun to sing along to, like Sugarlands "All I Wanna Do".

Last night the Country Music Awards (CMA's) were on and I watched all 3 wonderful hours of it. Carrie Underwood (who is one of my top 3 favorite country female artists) changed dresses 8 times, including the dress she wore on the red carpet. Even her co-host Brad Paisley commented on it, which was pretty funny. But wow, all the dresses were so beautiful!

The one downfall, in my opinion, to this award show was the inclusion of Kidd Rock. I mean, come on. How many times has he been in prison? He is foul mouthed, crude, and just plain nasty. To put him on the same stage as a legend like George Strait is laughable, and an insult to the great singers out there.

One of my favorite male country singers is Trace Adkins, which I have mentioned before. His song "You're Gonna Miss This" brings me to tears every single time I hear it, and I cried last night when he performed it during the show. The song was up for 2 nominations, but sadly didn't win either time....which almost brought me to tears again. If you have kids who are making you pull your hair out, go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vG9XfJxMY8A You'll hug your kids afterwards, I promise.

For me, the highlight of the night was when a woman came on the stage, that you knew wasn't a country singer. She introduced herself and went on to tell the story of how her husband was fighting in the war in Iraq and he gave the ultimate sacrifice when he died in June 2005. She said that music is powerful and she said there was one song in particular that helped heal her heart as well as the hearts of many military wives. It's the song "Just A Dream" by Carrie Underwood. Carrie then performed the song, and I didn't see many dry eyes by the time she was done...including her own...or my own. Go here to watch the video. Did you watch the show last night? If so, what did you think? Anyone in particular you really liked? Any winners that surprised you?

I missed it! No one lets me watch TV anymore. Between my husband watching "Myth Busters" and my children watching "SpongeBob", I am doomed to a life spent surfing the internet for entertainment. :o) Country music is one of my favirties, too.

As much as I love country, I normally do not watch this event, however we did last night - awesome and I have always loved Geroge Strait and even got to see and hear Reba. I agree with your comments and Carrie is great.

I didn't watch it but now I wish I had. I'll have to check out your links and you tube. I'm not a country music fan but I do like Carrie. 8 dresses!?! Maybe she was paid by designers to give each one a turn.
