Yesterday I did some shopping with Chelsea and a strange phenomenon seems to be occurring more and more.....homes already decorated for the holiday season. I'm not talking about outdoor lights. It makes sense to put those up while it's still warm outside (although I don't necessarily agree with having them on already). What I'm referring to is indoor lights, wreaths, and most bizarre - a fully decorated Christmas tree.

This just seems like a pigs tail to me....twirly (too early......tw-irly) get it? ba-dum-bum
It seems like we're rushing the season too much. I am one of the biggest fans when it comes to Christmas. I love the music, the lights, the decorations, all of it. But when I hear Silent Night playing in a store in October it just seems wrong to me. And when I see a Christmas tree already up and decorated and it's still over a week before Thanksgiving, it just looks odd.
If we do put up outdoor decorations I admit we do it in October while it's still nice out and the ground isn't frozen. But, they aren't lit until starting Thanksgiving night (or the next night), and our tree and other decorations go up the Friday, Saturday or Sunday after Thanksgiving. Oh, and they are always down by New Years. It looks just as odd to me to see a tree still up and decorated in February, as it does in early November.
When do you have your tree set up? When do you take it down?

We always put the tree up and decorate the weekend after Thanksgiving, and leave it up until just after the new year.
However, when I was single, working full time, in night classes at the local college full time, and still trying to have a social life, I put my very first tree of my own up in November, and I loved it so much that I just couldn't take it down in January. So I left it a little longer.
Come next November, I just dusted the ornaments off and plugged it in! Yes, I did. I don't tell many people that, so let's just keep that between you and me, m'kay?

I like my seasons separate...and the Christmas season does not start until after Thanksgiving! Not a single decoration is allowed up in my house until Thanksgiving is over...and there absolutely must not be anything left up after New Years. I am so weird about that! :o)
Hey I just dropped in from Chel's blog. Yes it is too early. The other day I saw the same thing. Houses with lit Christmas trees. What happened to Thanksgiving? Did I miss it?
We always get our tree the day after Thanksgiving and put it up the following Saturday. I like to have it down before New Years. It's not that I don't like Christmas, I love it but I am sensable about it. I read your lost post too. As CEO of our outside I have to say that I am pretty good with the computer. :)
I know of a few families who have the tree up and lit for Thanksgiving. Its a little too early for me too. I like mine up by December 1st and down by January 1st.
