Christmas Memory #4

I have a small collection of Nativity sets, but this one has always been my favorite. I remember my grandparents having one just like this one and I always admired it. The pieces were so fragile and delicate looking and the clear glaze on the ceramic made them shine so beautifully in the light.

The year I turned 18, my Grandparents gave me my own set, exactly like theirs. My Grandma explained that a mentally handicapped man in town made and sold them and she bought this set for me. This was the last set he ever made, because he died shortly after that. I later bought the stable to place them in and the brown square you see on the back wall is the Nativity story that was printed in the local newspaper the following year. I cut it out and taped it up in there and have left it there ever since.

My grandparents have both passed away, and this will be my first Christmas without my Grandma. I miss them both very much, but looking at this Nativity set each day keeps them close to my heart.

I think I shall always think of you when I see mine like this. :-)

And I wonder if the days are gone of local newspapers printing the Christmas Story in their papers. Hmmmmm. I'll bet most young people would be really surprised to know that they ever did such a thing.

Merry CHRISTmas, Dena!
