Getting Old

You know you're getting old when you don't even consider doing any drugs because you can get the same rush just by standing up quickly.

These Are The Oldies?

Last week at our high school football game, we enjoyed watching Austin playing his trumpet.

What I struggled with was hearing them play a tribute to the "oldies" that included songs like "Funky Town" and "China Grove". The Doobie Brothers...marching band music?

Then, 2 days ago I went to the grocery store, and as usual, they had the elevator music going and it included "Super Freak" and "Brick House".

Super Freak was one of those songs that I knew I'd get in trouble for listening to if I ever got caught, so I always made sure to switch the channel when it came on.

These were rock groups...with suggestive lyrics that I'm sure made parents cringe! Now they are played over grocery store speaker systems and marching band music?

Can I really be getting that old?

Happy Birthday Jay

Happy Birthday to my Jay.....or as I call him when I am being extra sweet (or when I really want his help with something) .... my Jay-Jay.

Jay is my best friend and he still makes me laugh just as much as he did when we met almost 23 years ago, and I never get tired of looking at his blue eyes. They are definitely the window to his soul.

He is a great friend, someone who will help anyone at anytime and he will stay until the job is complete. He is a wonderful husband, and the best father for my children I could have ever asked for.

The only "real" fault he has is that since he is 2 1/2 years younger than me, he delights in reminding me of that every chance he gets. During the 6 months between when I have my birthday and he has his, he is quick to point out that I am currently 3 years older than he is. But when I try to say that I'm only 2 years old than him during the other 6 months, oh no....he is sure to say 2 - AND A HALF!

He is concerned about his aging body and his receeding hairline, but I think he is as handsome as ever, and his smile still melts my heart.
Happy birthday Jay-Jay. I love you and I hope you have an awesome day!! XOXO

I'm Sorry Richard

We don't go to a theater very often. Partly it's because I'm cheap. I can't stand paying ridiculous prices to see a movie and eat stale popcorn. Plus, I always seem to end up sitting right in front of the people who talk through the whole movie. That drives me crazy - just ask my family.

So usually we will wait until it comes out on video or we'll get it through pay-per-view on tv. When "Nights In Rodanthe" came out on video I saw it in Target. I was there with one of my daughters, and I said "Oh we should get this movie", and she promptly wrinkled her nose. I asked what the problem was and here's how the conversation went:

Mom, do those two on the cover like....kiss?

Well, I haven't seen the movie, but from what I know of it, it's a chick flick, so yea, I'm guessing they do.

Eeewwww. That's just nasty.

What? Why is that nasty?

Mom. He's so...so...

What?

Old.

(*Shock on my face*)You did not just call Richard Gere old. He's Richard Gere. He has been handsome since "An Officer And Gentleman".

You call him handsome. I call him old. Look at him Mom. He's got gray hair and everything.

But he's Richard Gere!

Mom. Put the movie back. I do not want to see old people making out.

*sigh* And I thought I raised you better.

Well, a couple of days ago I was in Target and guess what...the movie was still there. It was even on sale - Bonus! That night I was home alone so I decided to pop the movie in, knowing there was no way Jay would want to watch a romance movie with me, and there wasn't enough money in the world to bribe Austin to watch it with me.

Oh Richard, I don't care what my daughter says, you're still dreamy.

This was a great movie until it got sad. And then the tears came, and more came and pretty soon I was doing the ugly cry, and glad no one else was home.

Excuse me.....Why didn't anyone warn me that this was a sad movie????
Would I recommend this movie? Yes. Just make sure you have your tissues nearby!
